"Look. You don't need to beat yourself up over whatever it is that's going on with you. It's not like Brooke is some random girl. You two have a past and neither of you ever got closure."

"That's not the point Caleb. I... I can't have feelings for her. I just lost Ronna. If I have feelings for Brooke, it's like... it's like I didn't really love her. And I did. I loved her so much."

"No one believes that but you, Carter."

"What do you mean by that?"

"No one is going to feel like you didn't love Ronna if you decide to move on. We didn't feel that way about Brooke when you and Ronna started seeing each other. Like I said, you're the only one who feels that way. But I can understand why, though. I'm not saying it in a bad way."

"It's different Caleb. It was almost two and a half years after Brooke disappeared that I even met Ronna. It... it hasn't even been a few months... since she died."

"Yeah, I understand." I sighed "I really don't need Ezra to find out that he's with Brooke. I'm not sure how hell that will go over."

"I'm gonna guess not well," I said, thankful for the different subject.

"Nope, it won't. She's been a fucking mess today. I hate to see her going through this."

"Me too. She's been through a lot. I was hoping the wedding and everything would cheer her up, but she doesn't look like she's having that good of a time."

I shook my head "She isn't but she looks beautiful. I've never seen her dressed up before."

"I wonder how much coercion it took to get her to dress up. I've never seen her in anything but jeans."

"After earlier today I'm sure it took a lot."

"Probably. I'm sure she only did it for Quin and Aurora."

"Yeah, she did. Her and Aurora went through a tough time together."

"Yeah they did. They helped each other through the games, them and Bastian. That'll bond anyone."

"I can imagine that it would. Look, we'll head back now. Just wanted to make sure all was good."

"Yeah, everything's fine," I said and we headed back. "She... she said she'd stay. He asked her to move in... but she said she'd stay with me. Said she'd promised to help me with Daphne."

And she cares about you too, don't forget that. "Wow, really? That's really nice of her. I can tell that her and Daphne get along."

"They do. She's really great with her. Honestly I'd be lost without her, I didn't know a thing about taking care of a baby."

I smiled "Yeah, I'm glad she's around to help you out."

"Me too. So how are you and Ezra doing? Besides this whole mess today."

"We're doing good, she's just really quite these days."

"How come? What's been going on? I've... kind of been out of the loop with everyone lately."

"She's still having trouble about the baby we lost. She didn't even tell me until we came out here, or Asher. Ethan was the only one who knew."
