Ronin & Megan

 

I got slowly out of bed and went to make breakfast, just going through the motions still. I looked up when Megan came out and managed a small smile. "Hey. How're you feeling today?"

"Okay." I said, managing a small smile back at him. Ever since Fawn, Cash, and the baby passed away Ronin and I had stuck together. "Has Jason been by yet?"

"Not this morning. He came by last night but you were already asleep. I didn't want to bother you. You haven't... slept much. I knew you needed your rest."

"Thanks, I appreciate it. Is he doing okay? Him and Cash were best friends."

"He's doing as good as he can. Just really worried about you. Are you hungry? I made some food."

"Actually...I am. After I eat I'd like to go see how the school is coming along. Do you know if Ethan has been making progress?"

"Yeah it's really coming along. They're doing a great job on it," I said as I made her a plate. "You want some tea or coffee?"

"Tea, please." I said as I took my plate and sat down "Thank you for everything. I know it hasn't been easy on you either."

"You're welcome. And thank you. I've just been... taking it one day at a time you know," I said, sitting down across from her with my plate.

"I've been thinking that I can move in with Jason and Faye so you'll have your space if you want. I don't want to burden you."

"You could never be a burden Meg. I... I actually think I'd go crazy living here alone. It's... it's comforting... having you around. But don't let that keep you here. If you want to go... well I mean... I can help you pack your stuff if you want," I said quietly.

I shook my head "No, I don't want to leave. I just didn't want to be a bother to you but I'm happy to stay if that's what you want."

"You've been far from a bother Meg. I'm... I'm glad you've been here. I don't want you to go."

"Then I would love to stay."

"Good. I'm glad," I said and took a bite of my food.

Ronin

"Will you go with me to see the school later? It's going to be hard...facing everyone again after what's happened. I don't want to do it alone."

"I know it'll be hard, but you won't be alone. I'll be right there with you the whole time, I promise," I said and reached across the table, squeezing her hand lightly.
Ronin

I squeezed his hand back gently "Thank you, Ronin."

"You're welcome Megan. You're family, the only one I've got left. I'd do anything for you."

"I'd do anything for you too. Want some more breakfast? I'll refill your late for you."

"I'm fine. I haven't... had much of an appetite lately. What about you? Need anymore tea?"

"I'm fine, thank you. You need to take care of yourself too, Ronin. We have to eat even if we don't feel like it. Promise you'll start eating more."

I nodded. "I promise I'll do my best. That's all I can promise."

"I understand."
