Raine Bast

It was nearly impossible to get Aurora and Mom to themselves but as long as I could see them from time to time, atleast Chase and I knew they were doing good. It took awhile but I finally tracked down Raine's house. I took a look around the surrounding and it was pretty quite which wasn't out of the ordinary. Raine was a pretty quite girl, after all. I checked the back door and it was unlocked so I let myself in.

I got home fron work and let myself in. Bella wasn't home yet but I automatically got the feeling I wasn't alone. Those self defense classes had paid off. I took my handgun out of my purse and turned off the safety. "I know someone's here. You have one chance to leave. Get the hell out of here and I won't shoot you."

Raine

I stepped out of the darkness in front of her and smiled. Hearing her be badass had that effect on me. "Please don't shoot at me again." I said.

I slowly lowered my gun, words failing me for a minute. "What... what are you doing here?"

Raine

"I wanted to see you. It took me forever to find your house, though."

"I thought you were... away," I said quietly. I put the safety back on and put my gun away in my purse.

"For awhile, I was." I said, studying her. "It looks like you know how to use one of those things now." I said, referring to the gun.

"I took lessons. Private lessons. And self defense. When did you get out?"

"I've been with Dove, Brady, Brayden, Chad, and Owen this whole time. When I took Chase and ran for it that's who we ended up with."

I nodded. "I see. And... it took you two years to find out where I lived? I'm in the phone book. I think."

"No, it took two years to get into Kampfer undetected. It took me only a few hours to find your house."

I nodded. "I see," I said again. "So... what did you come here for? Not that I'm not... happy to see you. I just... I'm not sure what you want. I haven't seen you in over two years."

"The last time I seen you, you weren't doing very good, I wanted to see how you were. I dropped by to see my mom and sister too but they seemed...busy. Who are those guys anyway? What happened to Jack and Quin?" 

"That's their husbands. Jack's in... I guess minimum security prison would be about right. He's in what they call the Arena Games. Quin... Quin is..." I didn't say anything for a minute, turning my head to look towards the window.  "Quin is dead. They executed him."

Raine

"What? But he didn't do anything to them." I said in disbelief. "I'm so sorry, Raine." I took a few steps towards her. Man, she'd grown up. Really...really grown up.

I didn't look at him. "He was executed for... his crimes. He wasn't alone either. Joy's boyfriend, that Ian guy. Victoria. Preston." I paused. "Asher too. It's fine though. They've moved on. Everyone's... moved on. Some are still in prison. Some are kept in the Arena cells for... entertainment purposes. Tywin made all the older women remarry. All soldiers of his. He made us younger women work as maids. I don't work as a maid anymore. Not since I turned 18."

Wow. I couldn't believe it, really. Those guys hadn't done anything that didn't need to be done and paid the ultimate price in the end. "Where do you work? If you don't mind me asking. Does Aurora and my mom work?"

"Neither of our moms work. Rory's in law enforcement. I'm a waitress. At a gentleman's club."

Okay. That was hard to swallow "My sister...is a cop? That's a little amusing." I said "Why did you choose to do that? There are other things you could have done."

"Nothing that pays as well. I know where your mind is right now and before you say anything, I'm just a waitress. I've never had sex with anyone. I wouldn't go that far just for some extra cash." I finally took my jacket off and went in the kitchen, very aware that he followed me. I could feel him in the room, could feel the electric charge between us I was doing everything in my power to ignore. "It's been good for Rory. Being a cop. She gets to... let out her frustrations," I said, my back to him as I got a glass of water.

"Oh, I bet. I kinda feel sorry for the poor bastards." I replied "And no. That isn't what I was thinking. Do I like it? No. But I don't think you'd do anything else besides waitress."

"Then what were you thinking? I saw your face when I told you what I do for a living."

"Well, I tried not to be obviously jealous. Guess it didn't work." I told her as I leaned back against the wall.

I turned around to face him and leaned back against the counter. "What's there to be jealous of? I serve liquor to men who have to pay to get laid. It's not exactly glamorous. Besides, I'm only doing this to help Bella through school. She's studying to be a teacher. With the money I make she only has to work part time and we don't want for anything."
