"You have to be referring to Mason Jacobs then."

I nodded. The one and only," I said and took another drink.

"Right." I nodded. "So...I think Mason will be alright. He isn't in trouble for much unless he gets himself into something else."

I nodded. "He's a Jacobs, so that's a high possibility." 

"True enough. We'll hope for the best though."

"I guess that's all we can do right?" 

"Yeah, I guess it is." I said and we sat in silence for awhile. "Look, I don't want to step over any boundaries but while we were traveling I may have...overheard you and your brother arguing." 

"And?" 

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

I shrugged a little. "There's nothing really to talk about. He made his choices. I'll never pretend to agree with them." 

"I just wanted to let you know that your family is welcome here anytime, Preston's too. I know he still has some family around here and they'd probably like to see you guys."

I didn't say anything for a minute. "Thank you. I appreciate that. I don't want to see Brendon. I'd like to see Sem though." 

"You're welcome and that's fine by me. she's welcome here anytime. Any of your friends and family."

"Thank you. Am I allowed to use the phone? I might make some calls tomorrow." 

"Yeah, of course. You aren't a prisoner here. As soon as I get the word you and the kids can leave the house without anyone hovering."

I nodded. "Somehow I doubt that'll come anytime soon."

Katy

"You never know, maybe I can work something out."

I nodded and was about to say something when alarms started sounding in the distance. "What the hell? What's going on?" 

Katy

"Shit. Those are the prison alarms. Come on, I should get you inside and then see what's going on."

"I'm fine right here. I can pretty much guarantee that anyone that can make it out of those prisons isn't gonna hurt me." 

Katy

I fought the urge to roll my eyes. This woman would be the death of me. "I'm sorry, but you're wrong about that. Your friends aren't the only ones there."

"And I can guarantee you I know pretty much all of the ones that have the brains to actually make it out of the prison alive. But whatever, I'm not gonna fight with you anymore tonight. Just know that when you leave I'll probably come back out here." 

Katy

"I wasn't trying to fight with you, I was just...nevermind. Stay put if you want." I went into the house and got my gear on and headed out.

I shook my head and grabbed the last beer he had sitting out here, leaning back on my elbows as I listened to the sirens.

I couldn't find Katy any fucking where. Which house was she in? Damn. I came to another one and all of the lights were off but I heard noises in the back so I slowly moved around the side of the house. "I should have known you'd be outside drinking."
