Evan & Abigail

"When he was in the training program the drugs they gave him made him do a lot of things he wouldn't normally do. It caused a rift between him and his brother and then we went through a slight break up in the wilderness. He...eventually tried to kill himself." 

I sighed. "That's terrible. I'm sorry that happened. I knew about the drugs, but not about the suicide attempt."

Evan

"He also tried to assault me once but my brother and Carter came home and caught him." I sighed "It took a long time for him to forgive himself."

I didn't know what to say for a minute. The thought of anyone trying to garm her in any way made me murderous. I walked closer to her until I was just behind her. "I'm sorry."

Evan

"It's okay...really. It's water under the bridge now." I could feel him behind me and it made me nervous but I didn't know why. I knew he wouldn't hurt me or anything like that. 

I nodded. "So what happened after that?"

Evan

"You don't want the details, trust me."

"I do. But I don't at the same time. Just the thought of someone hurting you..."

Evan

"We had a huge fight and he...he beat me up pretty bad and then that's when he tried to assault me and then Carter and Caleb got there. Afterwards, I was crazy enough to go back because I wanted him to leave with me."

"Why would you want to be with someone that did those things to you? Even if it was because of drugs?"

Evan

"I've known him my whole life and that wasn't him. I knew if I could get him away from here, he'd be okay. Which was...not the case. He recovered from the drug use but like I said...he couldn't forgive himself."

"That must've been hard. On both of you."

Evan

"It was. Until Daphne came along and I guess we're all a sucker for babies. She brought us all together again."

I smiled. "Babies tend to do that. It's a good thing she came along then."

Evan

"A very good thing. It's weird because I had never had experience with babies before and it kind of just came natural with her."

Abi

I smiled. "Some people are like that. I've never really been around babies so I don't know how I'd be with them."

Evan

I smiled back at him "You'd be fine, they aren't that hard."

I smiled. "You think I'd do okay?"

Evan

"Yeah, I think so. You'll get some practice in when Daphne comes for a visit."

I nodded. "Brooke's her mother, correct?"

Evan

I didn't even hesitate to answer his question. "Yeah, she is. When Carter realized she was alive they patched things up."

I nodded. "That's good. It's just too bad he's in prison right now. I don't think he'll stay there though. He didn't do anything criminal."

Evan

"I hope he doesn't. Carter has always been a good person and Caleb's best friend."

I nodded. "I hope everything works out okay for him."

Evan

"Yeah, me too." All of a sudden, I felt pretty fucking sad about it all. The anger about our situation was passing and now I couldn't help but think about how our lives are now changed forever. Some for the better and some for the worst. Everything we'd been through together was pretty pointless now.

I went over and sat beside her. "Talk to me."
