Jordan & Grace

"Alright. What time are your parents getting here? And what did you tell them? I imagine they weren't too happy when you took off." 

"They never knew about Tyler or Spencer...I plan on telling them tonight. I didn't feel like it was something that should be written in a letter. They should be here anytime."

"Oh great. This is gonna be a fun dinner," I said as the doorbell rang. I went to answer it and smiled at the couple on the doorstep. "You must be Grace's parents. Please come in." 

My wife and I stepped inside and it actually wasn't a shabby home. It was fairly nice. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Miles Harrison."
-Miles

"Nice to meet you too, Sir. I'm Jordan Trayhill," I said and shook his hand.



"Emily," I said, holding my hand out to him.

- Emily

"Nice to meet you too. Please come in, dinner's already ready," I said and led them into the dining room.

I was nervous wreck and tried to settle my trembling hands. They all three stepped into the dining room and I smiled at them "Hi Mom, Dad."

I took in the clothes she was wearing and how thin she'd gotten. "Hello Grace." 

Emily

Okay, so they weren't too happy to see me obviously. "How are you?"


"To be honest we've been worried sick. We didn't know what happened to you after that degenerate destroyed our district. Then we got your letter today and we've really been confused ever since."
-Miles

"We haven't seen you in over a year Grace. Then you all of a sudden show back up and you're married? What happened to you?" 

Emily

"Why don't we all sit down and eat. We can talk about it." 

We all found our places at the table and my stomach was turning at this point. "I...I met someone."


"What do you mean?"
-Miles

"Well, we know you met someone, obviously. You're married." 

Emily

"Jordan isn't the man I left with, Mom. Tyler Corrgian is...he was from District Six." 


"Excuse me? How in the hell did you meet up with one of those and then you...you left with him? How could you do something like that to us? We raised you better."
-Miles

"What could have possibly possessed you to do something so stupid?" 

Emily

"Easy now, she's been through a lot." 



"I don't believe we were talking to you." 

- Emily

I raised my eyebrows then took a bite of my food. Obviously the first meeting with the in laws wasn't going to be a success.

"Don't take your frustrations out on him, he didn't do anything." I looked between the both of them "I have a son."

"Excuse me? Please tell me I heard you correctly. Please tell me that I did not just hear that my daughter can't even keep her own damn legs closed. Are you kidding me Grace?" 

Emily

"That's why you left with him. You were pregnant with that little bastard."
-Miles

I turned and glared at him "Shut your filthy mouth. Don't you ever call him that again."

"My step son's not a bastard. If you even think about talking like that again, front door's that way," I said, pointing with my fork before taking another bite. 



"That's exactly what he is, a little bastard. And our daughter had to parade herself around like a little slut for the first boy she saw. It's disgusting." 

Emily

"Like I said. Front door. That way," I said, glaring at them.

"I thought we did better by you, Grace. However, I was wrong. We won't be back and please don't make contact with us again. Let's go Emily."
-Miles

"Gladly," I said and got up with him.

Emily

"You know... people like you make me sick. You're daughter's been gone for over a year and you're gonna let a little thing like who she had a kid with keep you from having a relationship with her? She's your daughter for fuck's sake. My parents have been dead for years, but if they were still here and it was me in this situation, they'd be happy I was alive. Go on, get the fuck out of here. You want to be a stuck up prick and bitch, I don't want you in my house anyway." 

"It's alright. Disowning me is the best gift they've ever given me." I said as I slowly got up from the table and went up to my room, locking myself in.

I waited until they left and locked the door behind them. "Good riddance," I said then went back in the dining room and got her plate. I set it outside her door and knocked. "Figured you want to be alone, but I brought your food up. And I'm taking you to see Spencer tomorrow," I said and went back downstairs to finish my dinner.

I heard what he'd said but I couldn't bring myself to move from the bed. I just wanted to cry. I knew that's how they would have acted a year ago too. Nothing I'd ever done had been good enough for those two bitter people.

I finished eating and went back upstairs to check on her. I sighed when I saw the plate still sitting outside the door. I picked it up and went down, making her a new one, and taking it up. I knocked on the door before opening it. "You need to eat." 

"I'm not hungry."

"I figured. You still need to eat though."
