In Passing

I woke up the next morning and decided to go for a walk to get some fresh air. I couldn't bring myself to go back home so I had stayed the night with Timber. After a few moments I started to feel sick and sat down on a log so it would pass.

I saw the girl from earlier sitting on a log, looking like she was about to throw up. "Hey are you alright?" I asked as I walked up to her.

I looked up and I didn't recognize him "Who are you?" I asked, getting defensive.

I took a step back to give her space when I saw her tense. "My name's Diego. I'm from the other camp," I said and held my hand out to shake hers. "What's your name?"

"Oh." I said and reached out shaking his hand "I'm Aurora."

I smiled at her. "Nice to meet you. Mind if I sit?"

"I guess not." I said and watched him set down beside of me "Forgive me if I don't trust you just yet."

"No worries. You don't know me, why would you trust me?"

"Exactly." I said, not sure if I could trust anyone at all anymore "Your mom, she had her baby last night didn't she?"

I smiled and nodded. "Yeah she did. Her and dad are so happy. I can't believe I have a baby sister."

"What's her name?"

"They named her Gabriella."

"That's really pretty." I said, wondering about my own baby and what it would be. I glanced over and he was studying me "What?" I asked.

I shrugged a little. "You just seem like you really have something on your mind. Wanna talk about it?"

"Not really, it's just all a very long story."

"Well I've got time, if you change your mind," I said and bumped her shoulder a little with mine. "You want me to leave you alone?"

"I'm being rude to you and it's not your fault. I'm sorry." I sighed and stood up "I'm walking back, wanna walk with me?"

"Sure, why not," I said and stood up with her. "I won't push you or nothing, but if you wanna talk about it, you can talk to me. I know you don't know me or anything like that but I'm a good listener."

"I guess I"m wondering why you're being so nice to a complete stranger?"

I looked over at her. "Why shouldn't I be nice to you?"

"I never said you shouldn't, I just asked why you were."

I shrugged. "I don't have a reason not to be."

"Unless I stab you in the thigh, too?"

I winced a little. "You heard about that all that huh. If she was a friend of yours I'm sorry. It was really just a big misunderstanding. My leg's not that bad now."
