In Town

"Let us know if you need anything, alright? I have three kids and Brady has two so we know a few things."

I nodded. "Thanks, I'll let you know," I said then headed back to the house.



"Well damn, pneumonia. Did you hear anything about that?" I asked as we went back to the house.

"Apparently cold weather hit hard up here and they had very little medical supplies. I'm not sure who all survived and who didn't though."

I shook my head. "I wish we would've gotten here sooner. We would've been able to help, we have plenty of medical supplies."

"I know what you mean, this is rough."

"I don't know why, but I just have a feeling it's gonna get even more rough."

"Yeah, me too. I hope Ronna pulls through, I hate to hear about her mother."

"Yeah me too. Daphne was a wonderful woman," I said as we got back to the cabin and went inside.

For weeks my brothers and mom had been bringing food out to my cabin but I didn't want to bother them with that today. I couldn't stay holed up forever, and I would have to face Quin eventually so I started walking towards the mess hall.

I was heading into town when I saw Aurora and went to catch up to her. "Hey. How're you doing?"

I looked up when I heard Diego's voice "Hey...I'm alright." I said with a slight shrug.

"You don't look alright. Tell me honestly, how're you doing? Are you getting enough to eat and everything?"

"My mom and brothers make sure I eat, they won't leave until I do but I've still been feeling sick all the time. It's nothing to worry about, I guess it's normal."

"My mom was sick all the time too, when she was pregnant. Have you been to see Pepper? Maybe she has something that'll help."



I had been able to get up and walk around for the past week or so and every day it was getting easier. "That doctor of V's was a fucking miracle worker huh," I said to Asher as we left the cabin and headed for the Mess Hall.

"No, I haven't seen her. I'm fine, really."


"Yeah, I'd say. You and Adalee both are doing good, guy deserves a damn medal."

"You should go see her anyway. You're pregnant, you need to do everything you can to take care of yourself."



"Yeah he does. Wish I could give him one," I said and looked around. I hadn't been outside since the night we'd gotten here. "The fuck. That bastard has some nerve," I said, glaring when I saw him talking to Aurora.

"I might see her later but right now I'm fine, it's just normal to feel this way." I suddenly had an odd feeling come over me, like someone was watching us. I looked around us and sure enough Asher and Quin were walking towards the mess hall too "You should go." I told Diego.


"What the fuck? I guess he doesn't seem to think he's caused her enough trouble." I glared towards them "If that were Timber, I'd beat the fuck out of him."

"Like I told Aurora already, he'll be lucky if his heart's still beating in his chest when I get done with him," I almost growled out and went straight for him.



I was about to respond when I was turned around and slammed hard into the wall, a fist connecting with my jaw. I cursed and tried to get him off me but he punched me again, right in the eye, dazing me for a minute.

I was stunned for a moment before I could even move or say anything, I went to get in between them and someone caught my arm. I turned around and it was Asher "Let go of me!" I yelled.


"I can't let you separate them you may get hurt, Brown Eyes." I said, keeping a firm grip on her so she couldn't get away from me.


"Quin! Stop it!" I screamed.

"He didn't think about stopping when he was fucking my fiancé, why should I think about stopping now," I said between punches then grabbed the front of his shirt and threw him to the ground. "Get up you fucking pussy!" I yelled and kicked him hard in the side.



I tried to speak but he kicked me in the jaw and I heard a crack. He kicked my ribs hard then got down and started punching me again, his fists landing on my face and neck. Fuck I was a good fighter but he wasn't even giving me a chance to do shit. All I could see is red as blood ran down my face and unconsciousness threatened.

A crowd had started to gather around and I knew they had all heard what Quin said about Diego and I. My face turned read from humiliation and anger at the same time "Someone do something!" I screamed again, as I watched. If someone didn't intervene soon Quit might beat him to death.

I had heard the commotion outside and ran out there. "What the hell is going on?! That's enough! Alright, I said enough!" I yelled and pulled a struggling Quin off a very bloody and broken Diego.

I ran over to Diego and knelt down "Oh my god, please don't die. Don't die because of me." I begged and started to cry. I looked up at Quin "I guess a simple punch to the face wouldn't have sufficed?" I glared at him as I got to my feet and shoved him.


My mouth dropped open when I seen what had happened "Someone get Pepper! Hurry!"

I shook my head. "No it wouldn't have. And you know, I can see how much you care about him. Crying over poor little Diego when I haven't even been able to get up for weeks because of what happened to me. Not that you even came to visit me so I guess it doesn't fucking matter huh. So to hell with you. He can have you Aurora, you deserve each other." I glared down at Diego and spit on him then shoved my way through the crowd and headed in the direction of the woods, no longer hungry.



"Quin!" I yelled, in complete and utter shock, then looked at Brett and Asher. "One of you please go after him," I said then ran for Pepper's.

I couldn't do or say anything but cry. Asher and Brett both went after Quin and it was no time and Pepper was there with Thomas.


"We need to get him to the infirmary." I said shaking my head "Jack, Thomas will you please carry him?" I asked and they picked him up gently as we headed that way.

I watched as they carried him away and a pain shot through me. It couldn't have been a contraction, it felt more like a cramp. I clutched my stomach quickly, hoping it would pass. I just wanted to go back home, now.
