The Infirmary

Cameron and I looked at each other, I didn't know what to say to that. "Alright, Carter."


"Just a little bit of everything if you don't mind. Get someone to help you out."

"What am I gonna do?" I whispered. "I... I don't know who I am... without her."



"No, I can handle it. I'll make a few trips and get everything you need."

I knew Caleb was lost on what to say to that so I decided to help him out if I could "You're going to raise a beautiful baby girl and be a wonderful father." I told Carter "What's her name?" I asked him.

"She... she wanted to name her Daphne. After her mom. You know, since her mom passed and... and everything... and... and I... I don't know how to... to take care of a... a baby. How am I gonna raise a baby... all by myself? How am I gonna do this... without her?"

"Little Daphne is going to have me, Aunt Abi, Aunt Ezra, Uncle Caleb, and a whole camp looking out for her. You'll have more help than you'll ever really need. I promise."

"And Uncle Cameron. Don't forget Uncle Cameron," I said and went to hug him when he started to cry again. "It's gonna be alright. I promise. It's gonna be okay."

"Never. You're the number one Uncle." I smiled at him.

"Thanks... all of you... Thank you," I whispered. "I know I... I need to... take Daphne home... leave so they can... I don't know what they've gotta do... with Ronna but... I can't... I can't leave her, I can't."

"Do you want some of us to take her home while you stay? Or we can help you get her home and watch her so you can come back in the morning. It's all up to you."

"I don't... I know she's... just a newborn but... I don't want her to... to see me like this."



"We can take her home Carter. Don't worry about a thing okay? We'll take care of her."

"We'll take care of her, what else do you need us to do?"

I shook my head a little. "Nothing. Just that. Thank you."

"You're welcome." I told him and went over to Cameron and I kissed his cheek "I'm going to go see how she's doing." I told him and Lea left the room with me.

"I'm gonna head over to your house okay? You need anything?"



"No. Thanks Cameron." He patted my shoulder then left the room.

"How is he?" I asked Cameron and Abi as they came into Daphne's room.

"Carter, do you want Lea and I to go or do you want someone to stay here with you tonight?"

I shook my head. "Not good. He's... horrible actually. I wish there was something I could do for him," I said and subconsciously rubbed the bandages on my arms.



"No, you can go. I just... I just want to be alone. Thanks for everything."

"Just being here for him and Daphne is already doing a lot. These next few days will be hard."

"We love you, Carter. We'll come by tomorrow morning." I said as Lea and I left and went to Daphne's room.

I nodded. "Yeah I know. I just wish I knew what to do. I feel so lost right now, I can't imagine how he's feeling."

Cameron

I can, I thought to myself as I came in with some supplies. "I'm gonna make another couple of trips Pepper, I'll be right back."

Ezra

"Thank you, sweetie." I said and watched her leave again "Would you like to hold your niece?" I asked Cameron.

"I... I don't know..." I said, feeling nervous all of a sudden.

"You'll be fine, just keep her head supported."

"I... I've never held a... a baby before."

"I'll put her in your arms and I won't let go until I know for sure that you have her. Once you hold her it will come naturally."
