Caleb & Ezra

I got home and Caleb was sitting on the couch. I went over and sat beside him, curling up to him and laying my head against his chest, not saying a word.

"Hey, babe." I said and kissed her head "Timber's asleep, I told her she could stay here for a little while, I hope you didn't mind."

"No I don't mind," I said quietly. "Dad got angry. Mom got pissed. Then he left and came home drunk."

"It's been a rough day for everyone, especially your family. I'm so sorry about Asher, he was a great friend to me."

"I know," I said softly. "He was my brother. I just... I can't believe he's gone. I don't want to believe it."

"You don't have to believe it, we only have a bloody shirt to go by. It's possible he's still alive."

"Not that likely. All things considered. He should've been back a long time ago Caleb. You can't deny it's been too long. And the bloody shirt... you saw where that stab wound was...."

I sighed deeply, I hated seeing her hurt like this "I know, babe. Wanna go lay down? We don't have to sleep or anything I'll just hold you."

I nodded a little. "Please," I whispered and crawled into his lap, letting him pick me up and laying my head against his chest as he carried me to bed.

I put Ezra into bed and crawled in beside of her, pulling her to me "I love you. I'm sorry for the way I've been acting lately."

"I love you too Caleb. And I'm sorry too," I said softly and laid my head on his chest. "I haven't exactly been a ray of sunshine either."

"It's alright, you had every reason not to be." I sighed "I gotta apologize to Abi and Cameron. He made a mistake, it wasn't entirely his fault and I miss him. I miss Carter too."

"I know you do baby. Just talk to them. I'm sure they won't be angry at you," I said and curled up closer to him. I sighed. "I'm... I'm not looking forward to tomorrow. I'm so tired but... I don't want to sleep because it'll just be here sooner."

"Is Ethan making arrangements?"

I nodded. "Jack... said there's a place where... where we can hold a service," I said quietly.

"I love you, Ezra. I"m sorry you're hurting...you've been through too much baby. I want you taking it easy from now on."

"And how do you suggest I do that?" I asked quietly.

"Just stay in bed with me all day." I grinned trying to make her feel better "I'll even feed you in bed, don't worry about gaining weight, I'll work it off of you."

I managed to smile a little and kissed him. "Well you are very, very good at that."

"I love it when you boost my ego." I smiled as she laid her head on me again. I held her close and it took awhile but she finally fell asleep.

We got home and he carried me inside and to the bedroom. I kept my head in my hands, not looking up, vaguely hearing Caleb ask what was going on.

I told Caleb what had happened as I laid Ezra down in bed "How come I didn't know about this?" I asked him.


"Don't give me that look, I didn't know until recently either." I sighed "I'll take care of her, keep us updated on Aurora."

"Ethan knew... when he came to see me... I made him promise... not to say anything... I didn't want anyone to know," I whispered, trying to hold back the tears that slid down my face.

"I'm sure you had your reasons...now I'm just even happier that those bastards are dead. I'm not used to you telling Ethan something and not me, I guess he handles certain things better than I."

"It's not that. I didn't tell him, he asked me later. He said he knew when he saw me in the cell, saw the... all the blood."
