Travis & Ezra

"You don't have to apologize for anything, Ezra. I'd do anything..." I started to say it and then paused. "Just don't worry about it, alright?"

I nodded. "Alright. What were you going to say?"

I turned away and was walking into this kitchen but stopped. I didn't turn around though "That I'd do anything for you." I finally said and then I walked through the kitchen door.

I stood there for a minute, stunned. I shouldn't have been though, considering what he'd done for me already today. Still, his words shocked me. I followed after him and stood in the doorway. "Why?" I asked softly.

I was moving around the kitchen now, getting everything I needed. "Because you deserve it."

I didn't even know what to say to that. I couldn't remember the last time I'd been speechless like this. The silence stretched between us and I finally spoke. "Would you like some help?"

"You don't have to but if you just want to join me you can."

"I wouldn't mind joining you. I feel kind of guilty just standing here staring at you."

I smiled some and turned my head to look at her "Come on over here, then."

"Do you have the stuff for french toast and sausage? If not, it's okay."

Ezra

"No, I do. I take it you like powdered sugar on yours?"

I smiled as I came over to stand next to him. "I don't know. I've never had powdered sugar."

"Well, then. Prepare to be amazed." I told her as I started to cook. "These won't take long at all, maybe ten minutes tops."

"Is that it? I've never seen an electric stove before."

"Come over here and I'll show you how it works."

"Okay," I said and went over to stand next to him.

Ezra

I showed her how the knob worked and then the oven controls "See? Not so bad, right?"

"Nope, not too hard. It'll take some getting used to though. I've only ever cooked over a fire."

"Just remember that things will cook faster on the stove and you'll be fine."

I nodded. "Alright. What about that? What's that for?" I asked, pointing at the dial with the numbers around it.

"That sets the oven temperature." I said and flicked it on just to show her. "See that light? When it goes out that means the oven has reached the temp you set and is finished pre-heating."

"Kind of like a fire getting hot enough to cook the food?"

Ezra

"Yeah, exactly." I smiled.

I smiled. "Okay. I think I might be able to manage it. How do I know what temperature to put it on?"

Ezra

"If you want to cook something nice and slow I usually turn it to 300 or so. For now, just use that temp until you get used to it. Then it'll all come to you."
